There are four of my pieces currently on view at the Atlantic Center for the Arts! I'm incredibly excited and grateful to be part of this exhibition. It means a lot to me to have my artwork showing during mental health awareness month as I mean to humanize mental hellness.
Exhibition dates: May 17th - June 21st
Open 10am - 4pm Monday - Friday, 10am - 2pm on Saturday
Atlantic Center for the Arts
1414 Art Center Ave, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32168
I create mindscapes that depict my dissociation, trauma, and psychosis in the form of detailed large scale acrylic paintings. As someone undergoing treatment in the mental health system, it’s important to me to humanize the experience of living with (c)PTSD, bipolar and OSDD in our society.
With a consistent palette of fluorescents balanced by local color, I emphasize texture and the warped perspective of dreams that conjures the surrealistic nature of flashbacks and night terrors. I take inspiration from these dark places and transform them while enjoying the healing process of creating something bright and invite the viewer to have fun with me on this journey. The physicality of acrylic paint allows me to build up texture and creates a grounding sensory experience. My process is messy, like the inspiration the work comes from, and that brings me joy.
I include elements of pop culture and universal symbolism to explore my relationship with shared reality in a way that transcends language barriers and encourages my audience to reflect on their own experiences.
